Benjamin Seidler Unveils His Distinctive New Jewelry Line

André Leon Talley

Former creative director and editor-at-large at Vogue, a towering and influential figure in fashion journalism.

Benjamin Seidler, a prominent figure in the fashion industry, known for his illustrations, accessory designs for Chloé under Gabriela Hearst, and fine jewelry collaborations, is now stepping into the spotlight with the release of his personal jewelry collection. Having been a key creative force behind the scenes for years, supporting his husband Stuart Vevers of Coach and contributing to various high-profile projects, Seidler's latest venture represents his long-held ambition and a natural progression in his celebrated career.

The genesis of Seidler's inaugural collection is deeply personal, inspired by his three young children, including his newest arrival, Fawn, born via surrogacy. This familial influence is evident in pieces such as the fawn brooch, tassel necklace, and bow barrette for pinning back curls. Beyond his immediate family, Seidler's creative vision is expansive, drawing from eclectic inspirations ranging from Marie Antoinette’s woven silks and the atmospheric 1970s bedroom in Sofia Coppola’s “The Virgin Suicides” to Elizabeth Taylor’s bespoke Bulgari jewelry. Each piece in the collection is designed to be imbued with personal narratives and delightful surprises, reflecting a blend of romanticism, playfulness, and individual character.

Seidler's collection emphasizes versatility and thoughtful design, with many items offering dual aesthetics or multiple wearing options. For instance, a crystal necklace can be reversed to reveal an all-metal side, catering to different moods and occasions, while chandelier earrings can be configured in seven distinct ways. Crafted in Florence, Italy, using 18k gold-plated or silver and rhodium-plated brass, these pieces are produced with factories Seidler has collaborated with since his tenure at Ralph Lauren and Chloé. Primarily sold direct-to-consumer in velvet-lined keepsake boxes, the collection, with prices starting at $150, aims to provide a luxurious and meaningful experience. Guided by advice from fashion luminaries like Anna Sui and Gabriela Hearst, Seidler remains committed to his unique artistic vision, even considering options for solid gold versions, proving his unwavering dedication to craftsmanship and individuality.

Benjamin Seidler's journey from a celebrated collaborator to a leading designer in his own right exemplifies the power of personal vision and persistent effort. His new jewelry collection, rich with personal history and artistic inspiration, offers more than just adornment; it provides pieces imbued with stories, adaptability, and a tangible sense of value, encouraging wearers to embrace their unique style and narrative.
