Casting Director From 'The Simpsons' Joins Animated Film 'The Most Serious Fart'

Ricky Gervais

Comedian, writer, and actor who created "The Office" and writes provocatively on comedy and society.

Scott Muller, acclaimed casting director recognized for his contributions to "The Simpsons," is set to helm the voice casting for the animated movie "The Most Serious Fart." This forthcoming Utopai production is an adaptation of Mike Bender's bestselling children's book and is slated for release in 2027. The narrative delves into the journey of Siegfried, a self-conscious fart determined to transform perceptions and earn respect, ultimately discovering self-acceptance, friendship, and joy.

Muller articulated the critical role of voice casting in forging initial connections between the audience and Siegfried's world. He highlighted Bender's talent for creating characters that blend robust comedy with genuine emotional depth. Muller expressed his enthusiasm for identifying vocal talents capable of delivering both humor and the inherent warmth and humanity of the story.

Beyond his work on "The Simpsons," Muller's casting portfolio includes other notable animated projects such as "Futurama," "King of the Hill," and the animated adaptation of "Napoleon Dynamite." He collaborates with Andy Brooks, a story artist from "Coyote vs. Acme," who will serve as the key story artist. Mike Bender takes on the roles of writer, director, and producer, with Russell Hollander also serving as a producer.

Utopai confirmed that the creative process will be spearheaded by human animators and illustrators, who will be responsible for originating the film's artistic style. Artificial intelligence will be judiciously employed as a production tool, supporting iterative processes under the guidance of the human creative team. Bender remarked that the goal from the outset has been to produce a film that captures the distinctive essence of its source material. He underscored Muller's comprehension of how vocal performances shape an animated universe and Brooks' exceptional skill in conveying narratives through character, expression, and movement. Together, they aim to ensure Siegfried's world feels uniquely original while retaining its emotional core.

The animated feature promises to be a heartfelt exploration of self-discovery and acceptance, guided by an experienced creative team dedicated to upholding the spirit of the original children's book. The strategic integration of human artistry with supportive AI technology underscores a forward-thinking approach to animation production, ensuring a distinctive and emotionally resonant cinematic experience for audiences.
