Central Casting, a venerable institution in the entertainment industry with over a century of experience, is embarking on a significant strategic expansion. This move aims to broaden its reach beyond its traditional strongholds in major film and television production centers, offering its services across the entire United States. The initiative reflects a changing landscape in content creation, where productions are increasingly seeking diverse locations and support outside of conventional hubs.

Revolutionizing Background Talent Acquisition Across the Nation

Adapting to the Evolving Landscape of Film and Television Production

In a direct response to the dynamic nature of contemporary production, Central Casting is extending its background talent services to encompass regions beyond the established film and television epicenters of California and New York. This expansion addresses the growing trend of productions moving to various states, requiring a more geographically flexible casting solution.

A Century of Expertise Goes National

The esteemed Hollywood enterprise, renowned for supplying background actors for over a hundred years and having coined the popular phrase “straight out of Central Casting,” officially commenced operations in all fifty states. Previously, the company's activities were confined to key production zones such as California, New York, New Jersey, Georgia, and Louisiana.

Meeting Industry Demands with Enhanced Flexibility

Toni Avalos, Vice President of Casting at Central Casting, highlighted that the expansion is designed to align with the industry's evolving needs. She emphasized that production is no longer concentrated in a few specific markets, and clients are actively seeking adaptable casting solutions. This expansion provides greater flexibility and creative control to productions, wherever they choose to film, by leveraging Central Casting's extensive expertise.

Tailored Services for Diverse Production Needs

As part of this transformation, Central Casting will provide comprehensive casting, payroll, and compliance services nationwide. However, its premium casting service, which involves dedicated casting directors overseeing every aspect of the process, will remain exclusive to the states where it traditionally operated. Other states, including Texas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico, will gain access to a production-driven casting model. This model allows teams to select extras based on curated lookbooks, with casting directors offering support without constant direct management. For multi-state productions that include both traditional and new operational areas, a hybrid service approach will be available.

Responding to the Rise of Production Incentives

This strategic pivot by Central Casting coincides with a period where numerous U.S. states, along with Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico, are actively offering significant film and television tax incentives. These incentives have created a competitive environment to attract Hollywood investments. While California continues to lead in production spending, and states like New York, New Jersey, and Georgia remain significant players, other regions such as Illinois and New Mexico are also witnessing substantial growth in production investments, reflecting a broader decentralization of the film industry.
