Emmy-Winning Director Jason Winer Enters New Chapter with United Talent Agency

In a significant industry development on May 15, 2026, acclaimed director and producer Jason Winer officially joined United Talent Agency (UTA). Winer gained widespread recognition for directing the pilot episode of the hit comedy series "Modern Family," which debuted in 2009. He also served as the producing director for the show's inaugural season, contributing to its capture of an Emmy Award for outstanding comedy series in 2010. His directorial prowess was further acknowledged with Emmy nominations for individual directing achievements in 2010 and 2012 for "Modern Family" episodes, including "Virgin Territory." Throughout the show's impressive eleven-season run, Winer helmed 22 episodes.

Beyond his foundational work on "Modern Family," Winer's impressive list of accomplishments includes securing a Peabody Award, a Producers Guild of America (PGA) Award, and American Film Institute (AFI) Awards. He was also honored with a Directors Guild of America (DGA) Award for outstanding directorial achievement in a comedy series, further cementing his reputation in the industry. More recently, Winer has expanded his executive producing credits, notably for Netflix's "Vladimir," featuring Rachel Weisz and Leo Woodall. Through his production company, Small Dog Picture Company, he is actively developing and directing an upcoming series for Apple TV, starring Elizabeth Banks and penned by Liz Heldens and Matt Ward. The Small Dog Picture Company is also cultivating a robust slate of projects with major players such as Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, Fox, and Universal Television.

Winer's career trajectory began after he double-majored in performance studies and photography at Northwestern University, where he was a member of the campus' Mee-Ow Show comedy troupe. He further refined his comedic skills under the tutelage of Del Close at the ImprovOlympic Theatre in Chicago, initially pursuing acting before transitioning to a directorial role behind the camera. His extensive directorial credits span various acclaimed productions, including "Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23," "Life in Pieces," "Single Parents," "Chad," "Perfect Harmony," and "1600 Penn," which he co-created. He also directed episodes for "The Santa Clauses" and the musical drama "The Big Leap." Winer has also ventured into feature films, directing "Arthur" for Warner Bros. and "Ode to Joy" for IFC. His recent television work includes directing episodes of the Fox series "Best Medicine" and "Going Dutch." While now represented by UTA, Winer maintains his existing representation with Mosaic and Yorn, Levine, Barnes, Krintzman, Rubenstein, Kohner, Endlich, Goodell & Gellman.

The move to UTA signifies Winer's continued ambition and the industry's recognition of his multifaceted talents. This partnership is poised to open new avenues for creative projects, further enriching the landscape of television and film.
