Lucid Group's Head of Communications recently experienced their collaborative autonomous taxi service, marking a significant advancement in the venture. Nick Twork shared his impressions on social media, describing the journey in the Lucid, Nuro, and Uber joint venture vehicle as remarkably smooth and natural, a notable achievement just nine months after the partnership's formation. This event highlights a crucial step forward for the involved teams and offers an exciting preview of future mobility solutions.
This initiative, unveiled in July 2025, aims to establish a premium global autonomous taxi program specifically for Uber's platform. The service is scheduled to commence in a major American city in 2026, integrating Lucid Gravity automobiles with Nuro's advanced Level 4 autonomous driving technology and Uber's extensive ride-sharing infrastructure. Uber has committed to deploying a minimum of 20,000 Lucid robotaxis over a six-year period, with ownership and operation handled by Uber or its fleet collaborators. Furthermore, Uber intends to make substantial financial investments into both Lucid and Nuro, reinforcing the long-term vision of this collaboration.
The initial prototype of the Lucid-Nuro autonomous taxi is already undergoing testing at Nuro's facility in Las Vegas. Lucid has emphasized the Gravity SUV's impressive long-range capabilities and its robust, redundant systems, which are ideal for autonomous taxi operations. Despite these technological strides, Lucid Group's stock performance has seen a significant decline over the past year.
This pioneering collaboration in autonomous vehicle technology represents a bold step towards shaping the future of transportation. By combining innovative design with cutting-edge AI and a vast service network, these companies are not only pushing technological boundaries but also striving to enhance urban mobility, offering a vision of safer, more efficient, and accessible travel for everyone.
