Exciting news for fans of the Dark Knight! Director Matt Reeves recently unveiled significant casting updates for the upcoming film, "The Batman: Part II." Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan are officially on board, set to join Robert Pattinson in this highly anticipated sequel, with principal photography now underway.

Production Commences for "The Batman: Part II" with New Cast Members

On May 14, 2026, Matt Reeves, the visionary director behind the successful 2022 film "The Batman," took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to confirm two major additions to his cinematic universe. In a cryptic yet exciting post, Reeves welcomed acclaimed actress Scarlett Johansson to the Gotham City narrative by sharing a GIF from her 2013 film "Under the Skin," accompanied by the message, "Next exit, Gotham... Welcome." While her specific role remains undisclosed, her involvement has been a subject of industry speculation since December, with reports from The Hollywood Reporter indicating advanced negotiations. Johansson, celebrated for her portrayal of Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, was reportedly scheduled to complete "The Exorcist" before dedicating her efforts to the "Batman" sequel.

Shortly after, Reeves extended another welcome, this time to Sebastian Stan, sharing a GIF of the actor with the caption, "In a Gotham state of mind... Welcome." Stan, known for his work in "Thunderbolts*" and his collaborations with Johansson in the "Avengers" series, was previously rumored to be cast as Harvey Dent. Adding to the intrigue, veteran actor Charles Dance from "Game of Thrones" is also in discussions to portray Harvey Dent's father. Reeves and co-writer Mattson Tomlin have penned the screenplay for this sequel, which follows the critically and commercially successful "The Batman," a film that garnered $772 million globally. Production has officially begun, and "The Batman: Part II" is slated for a theatrical release on October 1, 2027.

The inclusion of Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan in "The Batman: Part II" signals an exciting expansion of the franchise's universe, promising fresh dynamics and intriguing character interpretations. This development reinforces the film's potential to delve deeper into Gotham's complex lore, enriching the narrative with a stellar ensemble cast. Fans are undoubtedly eager to discover how these talented actors will shape the future of this iconic superhero saga.
