Shane McRae, a familiar face from the Apple TV drama “Silo,” has officially joined the cast of AMC's highly anticipated NASCAR series, “Thunder Road.” This casting marks a significant addition to the multi-generational racing saga, which promises to bring the high-octane world of stock car racing to television screens in 2027.

Shane McRae Accelerates into "Thunder Road" as Scooter Jakes, Joining Dennis Quaid in High-Stakes NASCAR Drama

On July 29, 2026, it was exclusively revealed that actor Shane McRae has been cast in a pivotal role in AMC's forthcoming drama series, “Thunder Road.” McRae will embody Scooter Jakes, a character described as “whip-lean, weathered, and predator-calm,” who serves as a veteran crew chief for the Whitlock Racing Team. His character is crucial as he will be alongside racing legend Duane Whitlock, played by the esteemed Dennis Quaid, during critical moments on the NASCAR circuit. The series, a collaborative effort between AMC and NASCAR, received its green light in April 2026 and is slated for a 2027 debut on both AMC and AMC+ platforms. The narrative will delve into the rich history of the fictional Whitlock family, exploring their deep-rooted legacy in stock car racing and their ties to the southern hill country. In addition to McRae and Quaid, the ensemble cast features notable talents such as Michael Rooker, Maggie Grace, Matt Barr, West Duchovny, Chase Stokes, and Devon Allman. McRae's recent work includes his ongoing role as Knox in Apple TV's “Silo” and an appearance in the acclaimed FX series “The Lowdown.” The series was created by John Fusco, who also serves as executive producer, with Taylor Elmore taking on the roles of executive producer and showrunner. Cliff Roberts of Syndicate Entertainment, Mark L. Smith, and NASCAR Studios' Tim Clark and John Dahl are also executive producing, while Gladys Cheng is producing. The production is a joint venture between AMC Studios and NASCAR Studios.

The integration of established talent like Shane McRae into “Thunder Road” underscores the series' potential to capture the essence and intensity of NASCAR. This blend of compelling storytelling with a dynamic cast signals a promising new venture for AMC, offering viewers an immersive journey into the world of professional racing and the intricate family dynamics that fuel it.
