Prolific television creator ("Grey's Anatomy," "Scandal") and author on creativity and empowerment.

Shatara Michelle Ford's latest cinematic endeavor, 'Dreams in Nightmares,' is poised to grace cinema screens across the United States this summer. The film, a poignant narrative exploring themes of chosen family and self-discovery, will first premiere in New York and Los Angeles before expanding to a wider national release. Lunette Films has taken on the crucial role of orchestrating the distribution strategy, aiming to connect this compelling story with a broad audience.

This marks Ford's second feature film, building on the critical acclaim of her previous work. 'Dreams in Nightmares' has already garnered significant attention on the international festival circuit, making appearances at prestigious events such as BlackStar, Berlin, and the Champs-Élysées Film Festival in Paris, where it earned a coveted Critic's Prize. The narrative follows a group of queer individuals in their mid-thirties as they embark on a transformative road trip, a journey that promises both humor and deep emotional resonance.

Malkah Manouel, the founder of Lunette Films, expressed enthusiasm for bringing 'Dreams in Nightmares' to theaters. She highlighted the current demand for stories that prioritize human connection and community, believing that the shared experience of watching such a film in a theatrical setting can amplify its impact. The movie features a talented ensemble cast including Denée Benton, Sasha Compère, Charlie Barnett, and Jasmin Savoy Brown, who bring to life the intricate dynamics and personal journeys of their characters.

Ford herself emphasized the collaborative nature of filmmaking, particularly in these challenging times for the industry. She noted her appreciation for working with a distribution partner like Lunette Films, whose filmmaker-first approach and commitment to meaningful engagement with audiences resonate deeply with her creative vision. Producers Pin-Chun Liu and Naïma Abed echoed these sentiments, praising Lunette's intentional strategy to build momentum beyond the initial opening weekend and foster a lasting connection with viewers.

The production of 'Dreams in Nightmares' involved a dedicated team, with Ford, Pin-Chun Liu of 120E Films, Naima Abed of Paradise City, Josh Peters, and Robina Riccitiello of Spark Features leading as producers. Further support came from Ben Stillman of Birchall Entertainment, Ana Leocha of Tango, Adam Wyatt Tate, Chris Quintos-Cathcart, and Tyler Bagley. The film also benefited from the expertise of executive producers Lia Buman, Tim Headington, Jacqueline W. Liu of Each Other Films, Annie Yang of Track Eight Pictures, Yu-Hao Su of Verdant Films, Emily Georges, and Liska Ostojic.

As 'Dreams in Nightmares' prepares for its widespread release, it stands as a testament to independent filmmaking and the power of storytelling that explores universal themes of identity, belonging, and the bonds that shape us. Its journey from festival recognition to a broader theatrical run underscores the film's potential to deeply resonate with audiences seeking authentic and emotionally rich narratives.
