New Romantic Drama Unveils Diverse Ensemble at Cannes Market

Sushant Shekhar Takes Center Stage in Cross-Cultural Romance

London-based actor Sushant Shekhar, a distinguished graduate of the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, has secured the pivotal male lead role in "My Indian Boyfriend: The Golden Mile." This cinematic endeavor is a U.K. reimagining of a celebrated Hong Kong romance, directed by Vijay Chauhan. Shekhar is set to portray Krishna, a British-Indian dancer navigating the intricate balance between familial duties and his personal ambitions. This marks his inaugural appearance in a feature film, following a notable career in theater productions such as Jonathan Kent's "Indian Ink" and "Sophia" with Eastern Angles.

Artistic Journey and Dedication: Shekhar's Perspective on His New Role

Expressing profound gratitude for this significant opportunity, Shekhar conveyed his commitment to the role of Krishna. He emphasized the rarity of such chances in an actor's career and pledged to approach the collaboration with utmost care, respect, and intention, working alongside an exceptional team of creative professionals. For Shekhar, this project signifies a new chapter, with his complete focus now directed towards the demanding work ahead.

Jolene Tiong and Chacko George Vadaketh Join the Ensemble

Earlier this year at Hong Kong FilMart, Jolene Tiong was announced as the female lead, taking on the character of Jasmine. Her narrative intertwines with Krishna's during a transformative summer in Leicester, set against the vibrant backdrop of the city's Diwali festivities. The cast further expands with Malaysian actor Chacko George Vadaketh, who will portray Krishna's father. Vadaketh brings a wealth of experience from film, television, theater, and live performances across Malaysia, Singapore, and the U.S., including appearances in "The Bold and the Beautiful" and "The Bridge." He also has a distinguished academic background, holding a law degree from the University of Cambridge.

Diverse Talent Completes the Supporting Cast

The film's supporting cast includes Adryne Caulder-James, known for her recent work in "Treasure Island" at Bristol Old Vic, and Jennifer Jade, whose screen credits feature "Mother Tongue" and Amazon's "Expats." Arun Sharma, currently undertaking his A-level examinations, also joins the ensemble. Both Caulder-James and Jade are represented by Victoria Lepper Associates, highlighting the diverse talent converging on this production.

A Unique Casting Approach for Global Ambition

Executive producer Hiu Man Chan revealed that the casting process for "My Indian Boyfriend: The Golden Mile" was unconventional, driven by the project's blend of local and global aspirations. She shared that finding Sushant Shekhar was the result of extensive searching, affirming that he perfectly embodies the character of Krishna. Chan is joined on the executive producer team by Amita Krishna and Djonny Chen, both of whom previously collaborated on "High Wire," and Sri Kishore, the original writer and director of the Hong Kong film that inspired this remake.
