The upcoming expansion for "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt," titled "Songs of the Past," is set to enrich Geralt of Rivia's fantasy adventures with more than just new landscapes and quests. A highly anticipated addition is a formidable silver chain, a weapon that has long been a part of Geralt's lore in the novels and even featured in the opening cinematic of the 2007 game, yet remained inaccessible to players until now.

CD Projekt revealed that the integration of this chain weapon was a long-standing aspiration, dating back to the initial development of "The Witcher 3" over a decade ago. According to Jakob Rokosz, Game Director for "Songs of the Past," technological limitations and development challenges at the time made its inclusion unfeasible. However, significant progress during the game's remastering process finally enabled the team to overcome these hurdles. The design of the chain weapon is not merely a technical achievement but also aligns seamlessly with the expansion's narrative and new enemy types. Senior quest designer Despoina Anetaki highlighted its utility for crowd control against emerging 'swarmion' enemies, providing a natural and fluid combat experience that fulfills the vision from the books and original trailer. This new weapon is envisioned as a refreshing alternative for players seeking a different combat dynamic beyond the traditional crossbow.

This development signifies not only a commitment to enhancing gameplay but also a dedication to realizing long-held creative visions. By integrating the chain weapon, CD Projekt enriches the player's interaction with the Witcher universe, offering new strategies and a deeper immersion into Geralt's legendary exploits.
