A Blockbuster Acquisition: Securing Rights to a Gaming Sensation

20th Century Studios has successfully obtained the exclusive theatrical film rights for '99 Nights in the Forest', a highly acclaimed game originating from the Roblox platform. This strategic acquisition underscores the studio's interest in translating compelling digital narratives into cinematic experiences. While a director and screenwriter are yet to be named, the creators of the original game, Alec Kieft, Matthew Hufton, and Cameron Angland, will serve as executive producers, ensuring the film stays true to its roots. J.R. Young will oversee the project on behalf of the studio, guiding its transition from game to film.

Exploring the World of '99 Nights in the Forest': A Glimpse into the Game

Launched in May of the previous year, '99 Nights in the Forest' immerses players in a thrilling action-survival scenario. The objective is to navigate 99 treacherous nights within a haunted woodland, rescue four missing children, and confront menacing deer and other creatures. Within a year of its release, the game has ascended to become the seventh most-played title on Roblox, boasting an impressive 26 billion lifetime visits and a player satisfaction rating exceeding 90%. It has also achieved a peak concurrent player count of 14.2 million, placing it third on the platform, and consistently ranks among the top-performing and highest-earning games.

Driving Diversity: 20th Century Studios' Vision for Future Productions

This venture aligns with 20th Century Studios' broader strategy, under the leadership of David Greenbaum, President of Disney Live Action and 20th Century Studios, and Steve Asbell, President of 20th Century Studios, to cultivate a diverse portfolio of genre films. Greenbaum expressed enthusiasm for collaborating with the innovative minds behind Grandma's Favourite Games, highlighting the cinematic potential embedded within '99 Nights in the Forest'. He noted the game's global appeal and the studio's ambition to broaden its narrative for a worldwide audience.

The Creative Forces Behind the Phenomenon: Grandma's Favourite Games

Grandma's Favourite Games is a collaborative effort by three talented New Zealand-based creators: Alec Kieft, the game designer known as 'Cracky4'; Matthew Hufton, the programmer 'ForyxeV'; and Cameron Angland, who specializes in environmental and asset creation as 'Viridial'. Since its establishment in 2020, their game development community has grown to include over 10 million members, testament to their ability to craft engaging and popular gaming experiences on Roblox.

A Dream Realized: Game Developers' Excitement for the Big Screen

The trio from Grandma's Favourite Games conveyed their astonishment and excitement regarding the film adaptation, drawing parallels between this opportunity and their childhood admiration for Disney and 20th Century films. They eagerly anticipate bringing the world of '99 Nights in the Forest' to a wider platform, promising new thrills and scares through an entirely different medium. Pryor Cashman represents Grandma's Favourite Games, while Michelle Kamme of 20th Century Studios played a pivotal role in finalizing the agreement.
