The Creative Artists Agency (CAA) is significantly enhancing its annual Moebius showcase, an event dedicated to emerging filmmakers. This year marks the 11th iteration of the showcase, which will run from May 27-28 and feature a diverse selection of short films from both undergraduate and graduate students. A key new addition is Moebius Labs, an educational component designed to provide invaluable access and mentorship through workshops and moderated conversations. These sessions will connect student filmmakers with seasoned professionals, including prominent screenwriters, producers, and executives from the film and television industry, fostering a direct exchange of knowledge and experience.

Distinguished industry figures are slated to participate in Moebius Labs, offering their expertise and perspectives. Confirmed speakers include screenwriter Julia Cox, who will engage in a conversation with Liz Suggs; producer Jessie Henderson; and acclaimed filmmaker David F. Sandberg. Additionally, CAA's motion picture literary agents will contribute to the program, sharing their insights into the craft and business of filmmaking. The showcase will also feature special appearances by filmmaker Max Barbakow and an unnamed Academy Award-winning writer/director, both of whom will host evening sessions and deliver opening remarks, with Barbakow returning to host the first night. The program highlights 10 short live-action films, representing a broad spectrum of genres and artistic viewpoints from various film programs nationwide.

This initiative, a collaborative effort by CAA Motion Picture agents Christina Chou, Zach Kaplan, and Pete Stein, along with Lingie Park, aims to nurture the next generation of storytellers. The organizing team comprises a cross-agency group of rising leaders dedicated to fostering a supportive environment for new talent. As Chou, Kaplan, and Stein jointly expressed, the expansion with Moebius Labs is intended to create a more direct and impactful dialogue between budding filmmakers and established industry veterans. They take immense pride in championing diverse voices and cinematic perspectives, continually building a platform that empowers future creators to bring their unique visions to the forefront of the industry.

By investing in the development of emerging filmmakers through comprehensive programs like Moebius Labs, the industry collectively fosters innovation and diverse storytelling. Such initiatives underscore the importance of mentorship and networking, empowering new voices to contribute to the rich tapestry of global cinema, ensuring a vibrant and dynamic future for film and television.
