Eros Innovation has announced a significant investment of £265 million ($355.2 million) in the United Kingdom, earmarking these funds for a diverse slate of 15 productions. This ambitious venture includes the artificial intelligence-driven remastering of the acclaimed film “Kochadaiiyaan,” starring superstar Rajinikanth, and the continuation of the popular “Tanu Weds Manu” series with a new installment. Additionally, the company plans to launch a comprehensive mythological cinematic universe, drawing inspiration from ancient Indian tales. A core component of this strategic move is the licensing of Eros Innovation's extensive cultural dataset, valued at $1.7 billion, to a newly established U.K. division, marking a major step in the global expansion of AI-powered content creation.

This initiative represents a fusion of technological advancement and cinematic artistry, aiming to revolutionize how stories are brought to screen. The company's unique approach involves leveraging AI systems specifically trained on a vast repository of Indian cinema, providing them with an unparalleled understanding of cultural nuances, narrative structures, and character development, distinguishing them from generic AI models. This focused training ensures that the AI-enhanced projects resonate authentically with their intended audiences while pushing the boundaries of film production and distribution. With two major productions slated to begin filming in Britain in 2026, Eros Innovation is poised to make a substantial impact on both the U.K. and international entertainment landscapes.

Expanding Cinematic Universes with Advanced AI

Eros Innovation is making waves in the film industry by committing £265 million ($355.2 million) to the U.K. for a slate of 15 productions. This includes an AI-enhanced version of Rajinikanth’s “Kochadaiiyaan,” a new chapter in the “Tanu Weds Manu” series, and the creation of a mythological cinematic universe. The company has also licensed its $1.7 billion cultural dataset to a U.K. entity, highlighting a strategic focus on integrating advanced technology into its creative processes. These announcements, made at London Tech Week, underscore Eros Innovation’s vision to redefine storytelling through artificial intelligence, particularly by utilizing domain-specific AI models trained on a vast collection of Indian cinematic content. This enables a deeper understanding of cultural narratives and character intricacies.

The company’s Large Cultural Model family, AI systems rigorously trained on Indian cinema, distinguishes itself from general-purpose AI by analyzing approximately 1.5 trillion rights-cleared tokens from 11,000 films and 100,000 characters. This specialized training, independently valued at $1.7 billion by OxValue.AI in collaboration with the University of Oxford, provides the models with an unmatched depth of cultural, narrative, and character comprehension. Under the “Eros Remastered” banner, “Kochadaiiyaan,” India’s first motion capture film, will be re-envisioned with these AI models, with Soundarya Rajinikanth directing. Furthermore, the company previewed its “Eros Brahmand” trailer, showcasing a mythological cinematic universe built on ancient Indian lore, with nine productions in development, each supported by a dedicated U.K. film production company. This expansion into AI-driven content creation reflects Eros Innovation's commitment to pushing creative boundaries.

Franchise Continuations and Strategic UK Partnerships

Beyond its AI-driven initiatives, Eros Innovation is actively developing new installments for several successful Indian film franchises. The company's “Eros Universe” banner aims to extend six existing cinematic worlds into comprehensive franchise ecosystems, encompassing films, microdramas, animation, and character-driven content. Noteworthy projects include “Tanu Weds Manu – The Next Chapter,” which will feature a new cast and be directed by Mitakshara Kumar, known for her work on “Heeramandi” and “The Empire.” Other beloved titles like “Phobia,” “English Vinglish,” “Desi Boyz,” “Rangeela,” and “Tere Naam” are also slated for continuation. These efforts highlight a dual strategy: innovating with AI while also building upon the success of established intellectual properties, ensuring a broad appeal to diverse audiences.

The significant $355.2 million investment in the U.K. is not solely focused on film production; it also extends to establishing AI music studios in London, dedicated microdrama production facilities, and London-based animation studios. Crucially, this commitment includes substantial U.K.-based model training and research and development, fostering academic partnerships with British institutions. The Eros Innovation co-president, Swaneet Singh, emphasized that this move is more than just an investment; it represents the establishment of a “sovereign-grade cultural artificial intelligence capability” in the U.K. Ridhima Lulla, co-founder and co-president, reiterated the company's dedication to building a new creative ecosystem powered by AI, rooted in culture, and designed to engage audiences in novel ways, with London serving as a key hub for these developments. This strategic alliance with the U.K. is seen as a vote of confidence in Britain’s creative and technology sectors, fostering a long-term partnership for future innovation.
