MoreThan Films has announced significant distribution agreements for two of its notable titles, 'Balearic' and 'Blue Heron,' boosting their global presence. 'Balearic,' a work by Ion de Sosa, has been acquired by Cineverse for North American digital streaming on its curated arthouse platform, Fandor. This marks a pivotal moment for the film's market trajectory. Simultaneously, Sophy Romvari's debut feature, 'Blue Heron,' has expanded its international footprint with all-rights deals in Japan and Finland, demonstrating strong market traction during the Cannes Film Festival.

The Barcelona-Berlin-São Paulo based sales agency, MoreThan Films, emphasized the strategic placement of 'Balearic' on Fandor. Queralt Pons Serra, a managing partner at MoreThan Films, expressed confidence that the film aligns perfectly with Fandor's meticulously curated selection, anticipating a positive reception from audiences across the U.S. and Canada. Eric Rowe, Cineverse's Head of Programming, lauded 'Balearic' as an audaciously original and timely piece that transcends traditional genre boundaries, predicting a deep resonance with Fandor's discerning viewers.

'Balearic,' a Spanish-French co-production from Umbracle Cine, Jaibo Films, Apellaniz & de Sosa, and La Fabrica Nocturna Cinéma, presents a compelling narrative. The film centers on a group of young individuals trapped in a luxury villa's swimming pool, menaced by three aggressive dogs, while nearby festivities unfold on St. John's Eve, a night steeped in magical folklore. MoreThan Films is championing 'Balearic' at Cannes, underscoring its unique blend of political commentary, aesthetic innovation, sharp wit, and unclassifiable sensibility. The screenplay was a collaborative effort by De Sosa, Chema García Ibarra, Juan González, Julián Génisson, and Lorena Iglesias, featuring a cast including Luka Péros, Christina Rosenvinge, and María Llopis, with support from various film institutions.

Beyond North America, 'Blue Heron' continues to gain momentum. The film is already enjoying a theatrical run in the U.S. through Janus Films, expanding into over 90 theaters in its third week, with a Canadian release commencing earlier in May. Lidia Damatto, another managing partner at MoreThan Films, voiced her enthusiasm for the new distribution partners in Finland (BKS Cinema) and Japan (King Records), asserting that the film is in capable hands for its broader international rollout. Daniel Sundvik, CEO of BKS Cinema, praised 'Blue Heron' for its blend of sensory detail and daring creativity, hailing director Sophy Romvari as a potential modern master.

'Blue Heron' delves into the life of eight-year-old Sasha and her Hungarian immigrant family following their relocation to Vancouver Island in the late 1990s. Their fresh start is increasingly imperiled by the escalating dangerous behavior of Sasha's elder brother, Jeremy. MoreThan Films is also showcasing Gabriel Azorín’s “Last Night I Conquered the City of Thebes,” a Spanish-Portuguese co-production, at Cannes, further highlighting its diverse and impactful film portfolio.

In summary, MoreThan Films is strategically expanding the global reach of its film catalog, notably with the North American digital acquisition of 'Balearic' by Cineverse's Fandor and the significant international distribution deals for 'Blue Heron' in Japan and Finland. These moves reinforce the company's commitment to bringing diverse and compelling cinematic works to a wider audience, solidifying their market position during the prestigious Cannes Film Festival.
