The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has unveiled its newest class of inductees, a diverse group of artists representing a wide spectrum of musical genres. This year's selections highlight the Hall's commitment to recognizing musical excellence and influence across rock, R&B, hip-hop, and more, promising an evening of celebration and tribute for fans and artists alike.

The announcement was made on a special Rock & Roll Hall of Fame-themed episode of 'American Idol,' where host Ryan Seacrest and judge Lionel Richie revealed the names of the esteemed inductees. The 2026 class includes legendary Genesis frontman Phil Collins, known for his prolific solo career; punk rock icon Billy Idol, celebrated for hits like "Rebel Yell"; heavy metal pioneers Iron Maiden; the influential post-punk sounds of Joy Division/New Order; British rock legends Oasis; R&B sensation Sade, beloved for her smooth vocals; the late, great love song crooner Luther Vandross; and the groundbreaking hip-hop collective Wu-Tang Clan.

While many artists were honored, several notable nominees did not make the cut this year, including the Black Crowes, Mariah Carey, Melissa Etheridge, New Edition, Pink, Shakira, INXS, Lauryn Hill, and Jeff Buckley. However, history shows that perseverance pays off, as some of this year's inductees, like Billy Idol, Oasis, and New Order, were nominated in previous years before finally earning their spot.

The rigorous selection process begins with a nomination committee composed of industry insiders, journalists, and artists. To be eligible, an act must have released their first musical work at least 25 years prior to nomination and must demonstrate significant musical excellence, impact, and influence on the industry. The final decision is then made by a broad voting body of over 1,200 individuals, including dedicated fans who cast their votes online.

Beyond the main performer category, several other awards acknowledge different facets of musical contribution. This year, the Early Influence Award will be presented to Celia Cruz, Fela Kuti, Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, and Gram Parsons, recognizing their foundational impact on music. The Musical Excellence Award will honor Linda Creed, Arif Mardin, Jimmy Miller, and Rick Rubin for their outstanding contributions to musical artistry and production. Additionally, the prestigious Ahmet Ertegun Award, dedicated to non-performing industry professionals, will be bestowed upon the legendary TV host Ed Sullivan, whose show famously introduced The Beatles to American audiences.

The induction ceremony is scheduled for November 14 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, an event eagerly anticipated by music enthusiasts. It is known for its spectacular tribute performances by contemporary artists honoring the inductees, creating unforgettable moments for attendees and viewers. The ceremony is a highlight of the music calendar, offering a chance to celebrate the enduring legacy of these musical giants. Fans who cannot attend in person will have the opportunity to watch the star-studded event in December on ABC and Disney+, extending the celebration to a global audience.

This year's Rock & Roll Hall of Fame class underscores the diverse and evolving landscape of music, honoring artists whose work has profoundly shaped popular culture across generations. From rock anthems to soulful ballads and groundbreaking hip-hop, the inductees reflect the rich tapestry of musical innovation and influence. Their inclusion in the Hall of Fame not only celebrates their past achievements but also solidifies their place in music history, inspiring future generations of artists and fans.
