Star-Studded Ensemble to Drive 'Lotus' Action Thriller

In a significant announcement on May 25, 2026, Hong Kong's ACT3 and the Philippines' Blackops Studios Asia revealed the lead cast for their upcoming action thriller, 'Lotus.' The film will feature acclaimed actor Cuba Gooding Jr., known for his powerful performance in 'Jerry Maguire,' alongside Australian talent Luke Ford, celebrated for his roles in 'The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor' and 'Animal Kingdom.' Adding to the international appeal, Irish singer and Boyzone member Keith Duffy will also take a prominent role, joined by multimedia artist Qymira, who previously collaborated with director Pedring Lopez on 'Shadow Transit.' Rounding out the cast are actor-producer Cristian Lavin of 'NCIS' fame and Brazilian reality television personality Alberto Cowboy from 'Big Brother Brasil.' This project is the first of five productions under a multi-year deal between the two companies, introduced to international buyers at the prestigious Cannes Film Market. Principal photography for 'Lotus' is scheduled to take place from September to October, with primary filming locations in the bustling metropolis of Manila and the vibrant landscapes of Brazil. The film is directed by Filipino filmmaker Pedring Lopez, founder of Blackops Studios Asia, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Rex Lopez. Pedring Lopez, Rex Lopez, and Maia Yambao-Lopez are producing, with Leslie Loh serving as executive producer for ACT3. Sonny Sison, a Filipino-American choreographer and producer, will lead the stunt and action coordination, collaborating with a diverse international team. Cinematography will be handled by Noel Teehankee, with a crew drawn from the Philippines, Hong Kong, and Brazil. Further Filipino casting is currently underway.

The announcement of 'Lotus' with its diverse international cast and ambitious production plans highlights a growing trend in global cinema: collaborative efforts that merge talent and resources from different regions to create compelling stories. The film's dual filming locations in Manila and Brazil suggest a narrative rich in cultural nuances and dynamic backdrops, appealing to a broad international audience. This venture underscores the increasing interconnectedness of the global film industry, fostering opportunities for cross-cultural artistic exchange and innovative storytelling. The enthusiasm expressed by the cast members for the project's 'raw, dangerous, and global' vision reflects a collective ambition to produce a film that is both visceral and deeply resonant, connecting diverse worlds through the universal language of action and emotion.
