Matt Damon in Talks for "Everything Everywhere All at Once" Directors' New Film

Shonda Rhimes

Prolific television creator ("Grey's Anatomy," "Scandal") and author on creativity and empowerment.

Matt Damon is currently in negotiations to headline the next cinematic endeavor from the visionary filmmakers Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, famously known as "the Daniels." This casting consideration comes after Ryan Gosling, who was initially attached to the role, withdrew from the project due to scheduling conflicts and divergent creative visions. The as-yet-untitled film, supported by Universal Pictures, recently saw its release date adjusted from June to November 2027, with principal photography expected to commence in Los Angeles this summer.

The Daniels' reputation has soared following the monumental success of their previous work, "Everything Everywhere All at Once." This critically lauded and commercially triumphant film garnered over $100 million at the box office and secured seven Academy Awards, including the prestigious Best Picture honor. Their unique storytelling approach was previously showcased in their 2016 feature debut, "Swiss Army Man," a fantasy-comedy featuring Paul Dano and Daniel Radcliffe. Their earlier career also includes directing the widely popular music video for Lil Jon's "Turn Down for What."

As the film progresses, the anticipation surrounding Damon's potential involvement underscores the project's high profile. His upcoming appearance in Christopher Nolan's historical epic, "The Odyssey," where he portrays Odysseus, further highlights his diverse acting range and commitment to compelling narratives. The Daniels' track record of delivering both critical acclaim and commercial success suggests that their next venture, with Damon potentially at its helm, will be a significant event in the cinematic landscape, promising audiences another unique and thought-provoking experience.
