The upcoming comedy-drama 'She Gets It From Me' is set to commence filming on February 26, featuring an ensemble cast including Rachel Zegler, Marisa Tomei, and newly announced additions Ed Helms and Nat Wolff. Directed by Julia von Heinz and penned by Jay Reiss, this film delves into the poignant yet comedic narrative of a young woman's quest to connect with her biological mother, and the subsequent journey that redefines the essence of family for all involved.
The narrative centers around Nicky Jannis, portrayed by Zegler, who harbors a deep desire to meet her birth mother before marriage. Simultaneously, Charlotte Wolfe, played by Tomei, reflects on the child she placed for adoption years prior. Their eventual reunion triggers an emotional and often humorous odyssey, drawing in their loved ones, Helms and Wolff's characters, into a heartwarming exploration of familial bonds and connections.
Director Julia von Heinz articulated her vision for the film, emphasizing its unique approach to adoption stories. She noted that while many films explore the initial search for a long-lost parent, 'She Gets It From Me' ventures into the uncharted territory of what transpires after such an emotional reunion. This allows for a rich tapestry of comedic moments intertwined with profound inquiries into the fundamental nature of motherhood and family.
The production of 'She Gets It From Me' is being managed by 3311 Productions, with Anna Werner representing Seven Elephants, alongside Susan Leber, Jack Chinery, and Jay Reiss as producers. Embankment Films has been instrumental in securing pre-sales for the movie and continues to facilitate sales at the European Film Market (EFM), while CAA is handling North American representation for the project.
The film promises to be a touching and insightful portrayal of relationships, challenging conventional understandings of family structures through laughter and heartfelt moments. It will be interesting to see how the combined talents of Zegler, Tomei, Helms, and Wolff bring this unique story to life on screen, under the direction of Julia von Heinz.
